Some people practice yoga as a way to exercise, be healthy, and find peace of mind. Others relate to it as a spiritual path, a lifestyle with a goal of experiencing an enlightened state. Regardless of the reason, working with our body, breath and energy gives great benefit to each of us and the way we function in the world. The more expanded the facilities of our bodies and mind, the greater the results in our health, creativity, relationships and well-being.
The contemporary form of Indian Yoga we know today (Ashtanga, Iyengar, etc.) borrows from a variety of traditions including Indian wrestling and British gymnastics. And its continued evolution has grown as we understand the human body through massage/body work, physical therapy, high-performance training, even martial arts and dance. But no matter which yoga system we subscribe to, we can evolve and grow our personal practice by integrating this valuable knowledge we are discovering about the human body.
In this workshop we will explore a unique approach to refining our asana, examining techniques from the GYROKINESIS® system which integrates core strength, full range of motion, and energetic awareness. We will learn three key elements to dynamic movement, learn how to integrate these techniques in our yoga practice, and use practical hands-on techniques to support a deeper experience of the asana. This approach can greatly expand the scope of our practice, help us find our greatest movement potential, and breathe creativity and new life into our personal practice and classes. This posture clinic style workshop can help us refine our own asana practice as well as help teachers in giving adjustments to their own students. Class is open to beginning and experienced students alike.

About the instructor:
Miles Maeda has been a teacher of yoga and meditation for the past 16 years. He has developed practice centers in Chicago, San Diego, Portland and Long Beach, and has worked with students all over the world. Miles specializes in the practical application of yoga in daily life, creating with his students intentional focus in health, education, creativity and community.
Miles' comprehensive training encompasses the evolving styles of yoga as they have existed on the planet over the past 18,000 years. His intensive studies range from the classical Indian yogas (Hatha and Kundalini Yoga) to the Asian martial arts (Tao Yoga) to the ancient schools of Central Asia (Tibetan/Bön Yoga, Tantra, Sufism). He continues to enrich his education and experience through new integrated movement systems like Pilates, GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS®.
As an educator, Miles offers teacher training through the World Evolution school of yoga as an E-RYT/RYT 500 certified teacher with Yoga Alliance. His current classes and workshops introduce the rich diversity of yoga styles and provide useful applications for practice in every day life. Ultimately, as a teacher, Miles¡Ç goal is to be an example of what he teaches as well as to create opportunities for students to deepen their experience, understanding and connection to practice.
